Engineering Around the Application
Renewable Energy Fastening Demands More Than a Catalog.
Long service life requirements, extreme environmental exposure, and project-scale supply demands define the renewable energy fastening challenge. CSG engineers C-parts solutions that address the physics and logistics of each application.
Corrosion & Environmental Extremes
Corrosion & Environmental Extremes
Renewable energy assets face salt spray, UV exposure, temperature cycling, and 25+ year service life requirements. Standard zinc-plated fasteners can corrode quickly in these environments. BUMAX high-strength stainless steel and hot-dip galvanized solutions deliver the corrosion resistance these applications demand, with full material certification and lot traceability.
Scale, Logistics & Global Supply
Scale, Logistics & Global Supply
Utility-scale wind and solar projects consume very large volumes of fasteners. Sourcing delays can halt construction schedules and put contract penalties at risk. CSG’s distribution center inventory, backed by the Bufab Group’s global network, ensures reliable supply at the volumes and schedules that EPC contractors and developers require.

Frequently Asked Questions
Renewable Energy Fastener Questions, Answered.
Short, direct answers to common renewable energy fastener sourcing questions.
What fasteners are used in wind turbine tower assembly?
Wind turbine towers use high-strength structural bolts, heavy hex nuts, hardened washers and double-ended studs at tower flanges, foundation anchors, nacelle mounts and blade-to-hub joints. Typical specs are Class 10.9 bolts from M20 to M72, ASTM A563 and F2280 heavy hex bolts and A490 structural bolts, coated with hot-dip galvanizing, Dacromet, Geomet or zinc-flake.
What are the most effective sealing solutions for wind turbines and solar installations?
Use sealing matched to the exposure: IP-rated enclosure gaskets and grommets for inverters, control cabinets and BESS enclosures, industrial cable glands where cables enter a housing, and weatherproof connector housings for DC connections. These keep out moisture, dust and corrosive contaminants. CSG supplies IP-rated cable entry systems, sealing gaskets and weather-resistant enclosure seals for outdoor energy sites.
What IP-rated and tool-free hardware does CSG supply for BESS and electrical enclosures?
CSG supplies Southco quick-access fasteners, captive screws, quarter-turn fasteners, cage nuts and IP-rated panel hardware for battery cabinets, switchgear, junction boxes and control panels. Tool-free or limited-tool access speeds up field maintenance, while sealing and grounding continuity protect outdoor enclosures. Grounding terminals, bonding hardware and DC connector kits complete the electrical side.
What bolts and screws are best for solar panel mounting systems?
Solar racking usually uses 304 or 316 stainless steel or anodized aluminum T-bolts, rail nuts, flange nuts, self-drilling screws and grounding fasteners, because they resist UV and corrosion over a 25+ year service life. Ground-mount and tracker structures often use zinc-flake or hot-dip galvanized carbon steel bolts. Check electrical bonding, thermal expansion and UL and IEC requirements.
Can CSG supply self-drilling and self-tapping screws for utility-scale solar farms?
Yes. CSG supplies thread-forming, self-drilling and self-tapping screws in high volumes, with anti-corrosion coatings and RoHS compliance, for racking, inverter enclosures, battery cabinet panels and mounting brackets. For project work, CSG sets up blanket orders and phased deliveries so hardware arrives when installation crews are on site, backed by the CSG Distribution Center and the Bufab Group.
What bolting is used on geothermal, solar thermal and biomass heat exchangers?
Heat exchangers and pressure vessels in geothermal, solar thermal, concentrated solar power and biomass plants use ASTM A193 studs and bolts, typically B7 or B8, with ASTM A194 heavy hex nuts, chosen for high-pressure, high-temperature flange joints. CSG supplies complete bolting sets with material test reports, verified torque and preload specifications and pressure equipment directive (PED) certifications.
Why are stainless steel bolts preferred over coated carbon steel in renewable energy?
Coated carbon steel relies on a sacrificial surface layer, so a scratch during installation exposes the steel to corrosion. Stainless steel, such as A2 (304), A4 (316) or BUMAX, resists corrosion through the whole body. BUMAX 88 bolts offer tensile strength comparable to high-grade carbon steel with corrosion resistance well beyond standard 316 stainless.
What fasteners does CSG supply for solar inverters and power conversion equipment?
CSG supplies precision miniature screws, micro bolts and small nuts down to M1 for solar inverters, wind turbine controllers, MPPT charge controllers and grid monitoring electronics, in stainless steel, brass and specialty alloys with RoHS compliance. Tight tolerances suit automated pick-and-place assembly. Thermal interface pads and sealing gaskets for inverter and IGBT assemblies are also available.
How do you check the quality of anchor bolts for energy storage and solar foundations?
Start with the paperwork: foundation anchor bolts should arrive with full mechanical test documentation and material certifications, and the heat or lot numbers on the certs should match the parts. Then check the hot-dip galvanized coating is complete, threads are clean and the nut runs freely. CSG supplies hot-dip galvanized anchor bolts and threaded rod with full material certification.
